Top-down enrichment of speech perception

  • Position identifier: ESR12
  • Host partner: UMCG

Objectives

The project investigated the potential of musical training to improve speech perception and reduce cognitive effort involved in speech processing by hearing impaired listeners. In collaboration with other partners in the ENRICH network, and by means of the visual world paradigm and pupillometry this project studied how musical training affects intelligibility, and cognitive effort involved in processing speech in populations with varying degrees of hearing impairment.

The project was supervised by Prof. Deniz Baskent and Dr Anita Wagner, and was carried out in collaboration with The Centre for Speech Technology Research, University of Edinburgh (UK), and with the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete (Greece).
