Individual differences in enriching one’s speech

  • Position identifier: ESR7
  • Host partner: RUN

Objectives

The project investigated which strategies individual speakers use when asked to clarify their speech, the effectiveness of these strategies as evaluated by (hearing-impaired) listeners, and how difficult speakers find it (in terms of cognitive effort) to keep up this clear or enriched speech. Speech clarification strategies were related to speaker capacities in terms of speech motor control and cognitive control.

The project was supervised by Dr. Esther Janse and Prof. Mirjam Ernestus, and will be carried out in collaboration with partners University College London (UK) and University Medical Centre Groningen (NL), with additional involvement from the Hoerzentrum (Oldenburg, Germany).
