Enhancement of speech emotion recognition

  • Position identifier: ESR11
  • Host partner: UMCG

Objectives

The project investigated the perception of emotional information in speech by hearing impaired listeners and cochlear implant users with the goal of developing training paradigms for hearing rehabilitation. In collaboration with other partners in the ENRICH network, ways of enriching speech processing for emotion perception were investigated, including the development of visual and auditory means of enrichment. Subsequently, these methods were tested in visual world paradigms and behavioral studies and be eventually applied to train hearing-impaired listeners.

The project was supervised by Prof. Deniz Baskent and Dr Anita Wagner, and was carried out in collaboration with partners Hacettepe University Medical Center (Turkey), with additional involvement from SONOVA (Switzerland).
